One (or more, pending funding) Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Computer Science position(s). We are seeking a dynamic individual committed to undergraduate teaching. Anticipated start date: August 21, 2017.
- PhD in computer science or related field required by August 2017 (all areas of expertise will be considered)
- Evidence of teaching ability
- Strong interest in teaching undergraduate courses
- Interest in involving undergraduate students in research
- Areas of expertise that can contribute to teaching coursework in Artificial Intelligence, Game Design and Development, Graphics, or Mobile Applications
Teach an average of 12 credit hours of coursework each semester in lower and upper level courses in computer science; involvement in curriculum development; research and scholarly activity; academic advisement; course and program assessment of student learning; and service to the department and the university are expected along with other duties as assigned by the department chair.
The Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science Department has 26 full-time members, a strong tradition of excellence in teaching, and a growing program of scholarship and research in mathematics, computer science, statistics, and related areas. The department received the 2008 University of Wisconsin System Regents Teaching Excellence Award for Academic Departments and Programs. The department is committed to student centered and technology enhanced instruction. Technology usage includes students working on laptops in the classroom, web enhancements (e.g., course management and on-line homework systems), and interactive distance education courses. Faculty members involve undergraduate students in research and the department has hosted an NSF-sponsored REU site in Mathematics in the past. In May 2016, the department actively contributed to UW-Stout's hosting of the National Science Olympiad tournament.
The department offers all the core courses necessary for the Applied Mathematics and Computer Science (~185 students) and Game Design and Development-Computer Science (~180 students) programs as well as coursework supporting the Computer Engineering program (~150 students). It also provides service courses (in all three disciplines: statistics, mathematics, and computer science) for the numerous programs within the university. The department has recently launched a Master's Degree in Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
