Job Description
UW-Stout seeks a forward-thinking, technologically creative, and service-oriented professional for the position of Archivist & Digital Publishing Specialist in the University Library. The Archivist & Digital Publishing Specialist will be responsible for leading a wide variety of advanced archival services in collection development, creation, and appraisal of collection materials in a variety of formats, arrangement and description, preservation in support of collections and data created by the UW-Stout community. This role focuses on integrating archival collections into the university's curriculum, teaching, learning, and research using cutting-edge technologies and innovative strategies. The Archivist & Digital Publishing Specialist will oversee the digital preservation of records, manage the institutional repository, and may supervise staff. This position reports to the Library Director.

Salary: $53,000 - $56,000 based on experience and available budget
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum / Required
- Master's Degree in Library or Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program or comparable experience with a relevant advanced degree
- One or more years of experience working with archival or similar materials
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment
- Demonstrated capacity to work independently with minimal supervision
Highly Desired
- Experience and/or knowledge integrating archival collections into curriculum and ability to teach concepts in an accessible manner
- Proficiency in using archival software tools
- Interest or ability to learn emerging technologies for digital preservation and access
- Proven ability to lead and manage, ensuring successful delivery of projects and services within set timelines and budgets
- Experience supervising staff, student employees, or interns
RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership in Preservation and Processing
- Collects, appraises, and preserves records of enduring institutional value to the university community and coordinates the preservation of materials in a variety of formats.
- Implement emerging technologies to enhance digital collections and access, ensuring long-term preservation and accessibility.
- Manages the institutional repository of scholarly works and promotes its use within the university community incorporating advanced data analytics to track usage and impact.
- Negotiates and permanently documents legal transfer of ownership, copyright, and access rights to materials as they enter the collections of the University Archives.
- Authenticates historical documents and archival materials and researches their significance as it relates to collection appraisal and research.
- Responsible for providing adequate security and preservation/conservation for the University Archives collection by implementing policies and procedures, supervising patrons, and maintaining physical security and environmental controls.
- Cultivates relationships with donors, collectors, faculty, alumni, students, and community partners.
- Initiates process improvements, policy changes, and assessment tools, typically through committee work, improve user experience and services.
- Works with vendors, tech communities, and internal support to manage archival software tools enhancing workflow efficiency.
Instructional Integration and Reference Services
- Serves as a liaison to academic disciplines and/or other campus units providing information on archival collections, instructional and research support, and library services.
- Collaborates with faculty, instructors, and colleagues to integrate archival collections into the university's curriculum and research projects utilizing emerging or immersive technologies and to enhance hands-on learning.
- Provide reference and advisory services to students, faculty, and researchers assisting them in locating and interpreting archival information relevant to their coursework and research projects.
- Assists campus departments and individuals with locating and interpreting archival information relevant to administrative activities, communications, and events.
- Develops instructional materials and provides training on the use of archival resources.
Personnel
- May supervise and train staff and student assistants. Provides continual evaluation and development of staff. Develops and revises position descriptions as necessary in consultation with Library Director.
Professional Development, Service and Other duties as assigned
- Participates in professional development, professional service activities, and library planning focusing on emerging technologies and innovative archival methods.
- Serves on appropriate library, campus, or UW System committees contributing to the development of forward-thinking policies and practices.
- Accepts the rights and responsibilities of an Academic Staff member as outlined in University Library policies and the UW-Stout Handbook for Unclassified Staff.
- Maintains professional competence in academic library instruction, services, and technology.
- Maintains in-depth knowledge of relevant academic programs, curriculum, and instructional practices.

The University Archives, part of the University Library, coordinates records management operations for the UW-Stout campus and collects and preserves locally created university records with enduring value. Stout's archivists provide robust publicly accessible digital collections, interpretive instructional sessions, and reference assistance to support the applied research of faculty, staff, and student researchers from a broad range of academic disciplines. Stout's Area Research Center serves as a constituent collection of the Wisconsin Historical Society representing Barron, Dunn, and Pepin Counties.
