Assistant or Associate Professor of School Counseling
The University of Wisconsin - Stout is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor to join our School Counseling program. This will be full-time, nine-month, tenure-track appointment, with opportunities for summer teaching. Housed in the department of Counseling, Rehabilitation and Human Services, our collaborative faculty serves graduate students in School Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and School Psychology programs, and faculty are encouraged to engage in cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Educational resources within the department include clinical counseling, play therapy, and career resource labs. Candidates will demonstrate a commitment to the field of school counseling as well as counselor education through teaching graduate courses in an experience-centered environment, supervising students, as well as scholarly activity, curriculum development, and service to the university and community. Professional affiliations (e.g., WSCA, ASCA, ACES, ACA) are encouraged and anticipated. Course array is diverse and may include: Ethical, Legal & Professional Issues in School Counseling, Play Therapy, PK-12 Classroom Curriculum, Multicultural Counseling, Group Dynamics, School Counseling Practicum and Internship supervision. Candidates are required to have, or be eligible for, relevant counseling credentials (e.g., school counselor licensure, LPC, NCC). Candidates should also demonstrate and promote a commitment to social justice and respect for diverse cultures, backgrounds, and identities.
Minimum / Required
- Earned doctorate in Counselor Education or related field with an emphasis in School Counseling; consideration will be given to candidates who are ABD, with degree to be completed within one year of the contract start date
- Eligible for Wisconsin School Counseling License within one year of date of appointment
- Doctorate in Counselor Education with an emphasis in School Counseling from a CACREP-accredited Program.
- School Counselor experience with PK-12, post internship
- Post-secondary teaching and leadership experience
- Established research involvement
The successful applicant will join a group of committed and vibrant faculty who deliver cutting-edge learning opportunities to a diverse student body. They will teach core courses in counselor education, through a rigorous academic curriculum that includes experiential and self-reflective learning. Faculty provide student academic advisement and conduct assessment of student learning. This includes contributing to academic program assessment and continuous improvement processes, in collaboration with faculty and staff. The candidate is expected to focus on teaching and supervision, while maintaining an active research agenda that engages graduate students. The candidate will also participate in service activities and embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation and experience. The anticipated start date for this position is August 22, 2022.
