Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Computer Science position. We are seeking a dynamic individual committed to undergraduate teaching with an anticipated start date of August 24th, 2020.

  • PhD in computer science, software engineering, or related field required by contract start date

  • Demonstrated area of expertise that contributes to teaching coursework in:
    • iOS Mobile Development -or-
    • Web Programming -or-
    • Artificial Intelligence with potential for applications in gaming
  • Commitment to teaching undergraduate computer science courses for students in multiple programs
  • Evidence of teaching ability
  • Strong interest in involving undergraduate students in research


Teach an average of 12 credit hours of coursework each semester in lower and upper level courses in computer science; involvement in curriculum development; research and scholarly activity; academic advisement; course and program assessment of student learning; and service to the department and the university are expected along with other duties as assigned by the department chair.


The Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science Department has 25 full-time members, a strong tradition of excellence in teaching, and a growing program of scholarship and research in computer science, mathematics, statistics, and related areas. The department received the 2008 University of Wisconsin System Regents Teaching Excellence Award for Academic Departments and Programs. The department is committed to student centered and technology enhanced instruction. Technology usage includes students working on laptops in the classroom, web enhancements (e.g., course management and on-line homework systems), and interactive distance education courses. The Computer Science program’s concentration in Game Design and Development continues to be nationally recognized, ranking 21st in the Princeton Review’s 2019 Top Game Design programs. For several years, the department has actively contributed to Wisconsin Science Olympiad, and in May of 2016, UW-Stout hosted the National Science Olympiad.

The department offers all the core courses necessary for the Computer Science (~320 students) and Applied Mathematics and Computer Science (~155 students) programs as well as coursework supporting the Computer and Electrical Engineering program (~165 students). It also provides service courses (in all three disciplines: computer science, mathematics, and statistics) for the numerous programs within the university. The department also has a Master's Degree in Industrial and Applied Mathematics. Typical computer science class size is about 30 students.

Faculty use the university’s online course delivery system and must be available for online interactions and/or alternate time frames for teaching. Faculty members teach, advise students, conduct research, assess student learning and engage in service activities.

Menomonie, Wisconsin, is a town of 16,000 located in the beautiful Chippewa River Valley, 25 miles west of Eau Claire and 60 miles east of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul.
