ABOUT THE JOB: Baker

University Dining's Baker 75% position performs baking and related activities, following established baking procedures and best practices to create and serve high quality baked goods according to quality and safety standards.  Bakers are responsible for institutional bakery operation utilizing commercial bakery equipment and producing bakery products in moderate to large volumes to ensure customer satisfaction and achieve departmental food service goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum / Required       

·       Experience preparing food and working with food service equipment

Highly Desired

·        Knowledge of yeast bread, roll, pastry, and dessert production techniques.

·        Knowledge of decorating techniques, e.g. on cakes, cookies, desserts.

·        Knowledge of bakery production equipment and commercial foodservice equipment.

·        Formal ServSafe training and or certification.

·        Pastry degree.

·        1 year of commercial baking experience.

·        Customer service skills.

·        Knowledge of standardized recipe development.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Typical shift for this positions is Monday-Friday 5:00am-1:30pm.  Weekends may be required as needed.

Minimum starting salary is $16.20/hour and commiserate with experience. Shift differentials apply to this position.

· Night Differential (80 cents) - additional pay for all hours worked on a regularly scheduled shift during the period between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

· Weekend Differential (80 cents) - additional pay for all hours worked between 12:01a.m. on Saturday and 12:00a.m. midnight on Sunday.

Physical Demands

Lifting to 30# frequently and up to 50# occasionally is required of this position.  Constant standing and walking with frequent bending and stooping must be done to perform job tasks.  This position is also contingent upon passing an essential job function test. 

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

University Dining includes two cafeterias (Commons and North Point Dining) and retail dining options in the Memorial Student Center (food court & convenience store), express food locations around campus, catering, and concessions. Some locations operate year-round, and others are closed during the summer months. University Dining is the largest student employer on campus. The hourly rate for this position is based on experience and available budget.  A six-month probationary period is required.  The UW System provides an excellent benefits package including participation in the Wisconsin State retirement plan.
