The University of Wisconsin-Stout is seeking collaborative professionals, committed to promoting the development of an equitable and inclusive environment, to serve in one of two accounting positions: Enrollment and Strategic Initiatives Business Manager or Discovery Center Business Manager.

Enrollment and Strategic Initiatives (ESI) Business Manager

Operating independently, while under the general supervision of the Vice Chancellor for Enrollment and Strategic Initiatives (ESI), with a dotted reporting line to the Associate Director of Stout Online, the Business Manager serves as the primary accountant for the units of Admissions, Advising, Registration and Records, Financial Aid, and Educational Pathways and Outreach. The Business Manager is the liaison for these units with the Business & Financial Services and Budget offices. As such, they are responsible for having up-to-date knowledge of University business processes, state and federal guidelines, financial services policies and procedures, keeping track of the financial position of their units, and ensuring effective communication within their units related to business and financial issues. The position oversees the management of financial funding strings and budget development processes for these units. The Business Manager offers advice and consultation to the Vice Chancellor for ESI and other unit directors in order to foster effective unit finances. The position works closely and collaboratively with several university business managers and budget personnel. The Business Manager is responsible for financial reconciliation and ensuring unit compliance with university policies and procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Discovery Center (DC) Business Manager

The Business Manager works under the direct supervision of the Director of the Discovery Center (DC or Center). This position also works closely with the major units of the Discovery Center on accounts related issues. This position is a key contact for and administrator of current and future Discovery Center grant funded programs, including the Stout Manufacturing Outreach Center (NIST­ MEP) and the Center for Innovation and Development/FabLab. This position requires engagement at a variety of levels within the organization and the ability to execute multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, exercise considerable independent judgment, be attentive to detail with a customer-center approach to service. The Business Manager must possess strong ethics, exemplary analytical skills, operational knowledge of UW­ Stout regulations and requirements, grants and contracts accounting knowledge, and administrative skills. The services required by this position are very specialized to the area of university applied research and technical assistance administration at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum / Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field; or equivalent education and related work experience
  • Three years of experience with fiscal management, accounting, or financial analysis
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong analytical abilities and a quantitative background
  • Excellent judgment including sensitivity to personal and confidential information
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills in working with a diverse community
  • Ability to delegate and prioritize work

Highly Desired

  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong working knowledge of data querying tools
  • Knowledge of university, state and federal fiscal rules, regulations, and procedures
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing a climate (work environment) that embraces equity, diversity, and inclusion

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

Enrollment and Strategic Initiatives (ESI) is a newly structured unit that is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for all aspects of university enrollment. The unit, located within the division of the Chancellor, consists of the Admissions Office, Advisement Center, the Financial Aid Office, Registration and Records, and Educational Pathways and Outreach which houses Stout Online, Professional Education Programs and Services, Stout Online, and Continuing Education.

The Discovery Center (DC) is the University of Wisconsin-Stout's primary outreach and engagement organization. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Minimum starting salary is $50,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The UW System provides an excellent benefits package including participation in the Wisconsin State retirement plan.
