The University of Wisconsin Stout, Wisconsin's Polytechnic University, is seeking an emerging or established Certification Officer candidate that is passionate and committed to teacher education. The Certification Officer serves all School of Education (SOE) preparation programs, processing and endorsing educator license applications along with staying up to date on certification rules. Review, monitor, and maintain School of Education student records.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum / Required

  • Bachelor's degree by employment start date 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills  
  • Proficiency with technology and various computer programs  
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively

Highly Desired/Preferred

  • Master's degree in education or related field  
  • Teacher license  
  • Evidence of problem-solving skills   
  • Demonstrated project management skills

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Certification Officer

Licensure Compliance
- Process and endorse educator licenses for in state and out of state applicants
- Oversee compliance and interpret educator policies, goals, and practices to internal and external audiences
- Inform appropriate educator preparation program personnel of changes in certification requirements
- Communicate with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI), education agencies in other states, the Registrar, and applicants as necessary
- Review and endorse all types of education applications, which includes researching completed coursework and eligibility of applicants
- Author and co-submit eligible candidates for licensure (ECL) report to the WI DPI
- Keep current with certification rules and regulations in Wisconsin and Minnesota and create materials to assist students in obtaining an educator license
- Maintain permanent file of certification application and verifications
- Maintain spreadsheet and data of candidates that are impacted by the Wisconsin Foundations of Reading Test (FORT)
- Process transcript comments in PeopleSoft to annotate eligibility on the student's permanent transcript including Milestone completions for add-on certification students
- Collaborate with the School of Education (SOE) faculty and staff in implementing process necessary to maintain student records
Related Licensure Support Functions
- Present at student teaching, graduate seminars, and advisement data on the process of obtaining educator licenses/certifications
- Provide prospective education student outreach and support student success
- Contribute to and participate in the annual Continuous Review Process (CRP) with the WI DPI, IPEDS report and Title II report
- Collaborate with Assessment Coordinator with gathering student statistics for various reports
- Attend WI DPI, ETS (Praxis I and II), FORT workshops, webinars, as needed
- Update licensure and other items on the SOE website
- Support the Associate Dean / SOE Director with policies and procedures

Evaluation of SOE Student Records

- Oversee Benchmark I process (Admission to the SOE)
- Administration for Praxis I, Praxis II, and FORT tests
- Monitoring students' eligibility to take education courses with prerequisites
- Collaborate with undergraduate admissions, the Graduate School, Outreach Services, and Program Directors to oversee the post-baccalaureate non-degree add-on certification process
- Data lead backup
- Background check administrator
- Track, follow, and maintain data files for tests scores

The School of Education (SOE) has been preparing teachers and educators since 1891 to work in childcare facilities, primary schools, middle schools, secondary schools, higher education, and more.
