Data Warehouse Engineer/Developer
This position works under general supervision of the Enterprise Information Systems (EIS) team in Learning and Information Technology at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. This position follows and performs work on projects identified by priority setting guidelines within the department, and reports status of projects that are under development. Position provides software support to staff using PeopleSoft Campus Solutions (the college’s student information system), Salesforce, and UW-Stout’s Data Warehouse environment. Tools include Oracle database, Informatica (both PowerCenter and Cloud), Salesforce, PL/SQL, Tableau, and Oracle’s OBIEE for Data Warehouse reporting.
This position serves campus information system users -- especially in administrative and academic departments -- as an authority for initiating all systems changes and problems; providing direction, guidance and consultation on Information Systems technical issues and helping to determine the most feasible solution to customer problems. Candidate selected will work in a team environment, managing multiple tasks, accept responsibility for mission critical systems, meet deadlines and be able to respond to ever-changing business needs and technology to meet the general goals of the University. ABOUT THE JOB: Data Warehouse Engineer/Developer II
Minimum / Required
- Data warehouse development and reporting experience
- Oracle database query/reporting experience
- Reporting from PeopleSoft tools and tables, particularly Campus Solutions
- Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition development and reporting experience, including RPD development, data modeling and familiarity with physical-logical-presentation layers
- Experience using data visualization tools, such as Tableau
- Experience using Informatica
- Ability to diagnose and solve highly complex problems with application and database management system infrastructure
- Experience leading large projects in an enterprise technology environment with emphasis on communication to customers and team members
- Experience working with higher education
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community, both independently and on team assignments
- Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills
- Willingness to work some holidays, evenings, and weekends
- Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Design, develop and maintain Data Warehousing Systems and Reporting Data Systems (RDS).
- Design, build, test, and deploy conceptual, logical, and physical data models by following department standards.
- Design, build, test, and deploy specialized, business related, complex automated systems; develop specifications, develop test conditions, and monitor and troubleshoot the developed systems.
- Develop, document, and maintain reporting solutions as identified by end-user departments including Tableau, Oracle’s OBIEE, Informatica, etc.
- Conducts complex data exploration steps on multiple data types and sources.
- Collaborate with staff in performing data quality clean-up initiatives and provide code review.
- Develops and tests high-complexity mappings and deploys to production.
- Consult with data subject matter experts to document and address data quality issues.
- Attend appropriate seminars and classes to maintain and enhance levels of information technology, communication, and customer service skills.
- Read appropriate trade journals and professional publications regarding current learning and information technology developments.
- Accept assignments as required by the Director of Enterprise Information Systems to actively participate in work teams providing learning and information technology customer support and other campus technology needs.
- Comply with recognized environmental health and safety practices.
The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000, depending on candidate’s qualifications.
Enterprise Information Systems (EIS), Learning Technology Services (LTS), Client Technology Services (CTS), and Telecommunications and Networking (T&N), make up the Learning and Information Technology Department (LIT). LIT is UW-Stout’s steward of technology in support of education. In particular, EIS provides data and enterprise resource planning services including PeopleSoft Campus Solutions student information system application development, support, and maintenance; data warehouse and reporting development and support; campus website technical support, development, and maintenance; development, support, and maintenance for a variety of web-based applications for the campus; and operation, support, and administration of servers for those applications.
