The University of Wisconsin-Stout, Enrollment and Strategic Initiatives (ESI) Division, invites qualified candidates to apply for our Director of Academic Advising position. The Director of Academic Advising provides strategic leadership for academic advising, first-year registration, and retention initiatives.

It is an exciting time for academic advising at UW-Stout. Recently, the institution developed a proposal to restructure academic advising at the university, created an Academic Advising Model Action Plan as part of the Strategic Enrollment Management Plan and is in the process of determining the future structure of academic advising at UW-Stout. The focus of the Director will be to develop and implement an advising model for UW-Stout that is comprehensive, holistic, integrated across campus, and grounded in student success. The successful candidate for the Director of Academic Advising position will be entrusted to move these conversations forward through a collaborative process and lead the development and implementation of the new model.

This position reports directly to the Vice Chancellor of Enrollment and Strategic Initiatives (ESI). The Director supervises academic advisors, administrative assistants, and student workers. ESI is seeking a team member who is committed to promoting the development of an equitable and inclusive environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum / Required

  • Master’s Degree in higher education or related field
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in academic advising (or related student affairs/services position) in a post-secondary setting
  • Demonstrated experience in program development and implementation
  • Experience implementing effective practices supporting recruitment and retention
  • Demonstrate strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Detail oriented and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Highly Desired

  • 3-5 years leadership experience
  • Budget development and management
  • Strong familiarity with student record systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, etc.)
  • Experience using Customer Relations Management (CRM) software for student retention and intervention initiatives (e.g., EAB Navigate, etc.)
  • Ability to use technology effectively to advance processes, procedures, and efficiencies
  • Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to diverse student populations
  • Ability to work effectively and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide strategic leadership for academic advising, matriculation, and retention programming
  • Collaborate to implement a holistic orientation and first year experience programming
  • Evaluate and implement best practices in advising
  • Provide supervision and budgetary oversight of unit

Minimum annual starting salary of $68,800; commensurate with finalist’s qualifications and experience. The UW System provides an excellent benefits package including participation in the Wisconsin State retirement plan.
