JOB DETAILS:


The University Advancement department is looking for a Director of Finance and Advancement Services. This position is responsible for designing strategies that will permit the Stout University Foundation to acquire, manage, and distribute philanthropic funds that will enhance the educational mission of UW-Stout. This position is responsible for appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources that align with the strategic plan of the Stout University Foundation and UW-Stout. In addition, this position develops and monitors unit budget, approves unit expenditures in accordance with UW-Stout accounting and business policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum / Required

  • Exceptional communication and relationship building skills.
  • Demonstrated maturity and seasoned judgment.
  • Ability to make decisions, justify recommendations, be responsible, and have clear communication with stakeholders.
  • Experience with tax reporting, audit, and legal compliance for non-profit organizations.
  • Proven financial analytical skills including the ability to identify risks, opportunities, trends, and relationships.

Highly Desired

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in accounting, financial, and non-profit management.
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge and Financial Edge or related Customer Relationship Management software.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

RESPONSIBILITIES

90% Business and Finance Manager

  • Serves as the unit liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing organizational information on university business-relations issues, opportunities, and activities, and representing the interests of the unit. Provides guidance and direction to the Executive Director, Stout University Foundation/Alumni Boards, and donors.
  • Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships.
  • Delivers directed program messaging to internal and external audiences.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and tax requirements relevant for a non-profit foundation. Working knowledge of appropriate tax laws, gift administration, planned giving instruments, and planned giving computer software.
  • Prepare financial assessments of operations, reports on financial positions based on past and present operations, and budgets and financial forecasts for the Stout University Foundation and Alumni Association.
  • Organize, direct, control, and evaluate a variety of financial activities including the planning and development of the Stout University Foundation and Alumni Association offices accounts, ledgers, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Prepares financial analyses of operations, prepares reports on financial positions based on past and present operations, and directs the preparation of Foundation/Alumni office budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Manage budgets, investments, audits, and other combinations of business and financial affairs including risk management, real estate, and financial forecasts.
  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE employees.
  • Prepare financial reports and documents in conjunction with Stout University Foundation, Stout University Foundation Board of Directors, UW-Stout, and UW System policies and requirements.
  • Prepare and communicate financial reports, budgets, and other financial metrics to unit, university, and board leadership.
  • Coordinate annual audit and maintain working relationship with external investment advisors.

10% Development Support

  • Ability to communicate principles of planned giving and an understanding of the non-profit organization’s issues and IRS regulations.
  • Reviews, monitors, and evaluates policies, programs, and management practices as an aid to the management decision practices of the Foundation/Alumni office.
  • Supervise the maintenance and ongoing updates of the alumni database. Evaluate data input and usage procedures and policies.
  • Establish guidelines and procedures to ensure accuracy, quality, and reliability of information sources for the donor and alumni data system.
  • Assist in providing direction, planning, and implementation of the Stout University Foundation’s strategic plan.

The UW-Stout Office of University Advancement is comprised of the Stout University Foundation and the UW-Stout Alumni Association. The two units collaboratively strive to advance the mission of UW-Stout through building relationships with alumni, friends, and industry partners of the university. Under the direction of the Stout University Foundation Board of Directors, the Stout University Foundation is responsible for the acquisition and stewardship of philanthropic resources for UW-Stout.
