Director - Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP)
The Director of ORSP serves as UW-Stout’s lead research administrator of extramural and intramural research funds. The Director also is responsible for research compliance and administration of University contracts and non-purchasing agreements. The Director is a leader with strategic vision and strong supervisory skills necessary to guide a dynamic office to support UW-Stout’s polytechnic mission and strategic priorities. The Director is a full-time annual appointment. The anticipated start date for this position is June 2019.
Minimum / Required
- Bachelor’s degree
- Three or more years of demonstrated leadership experience in higher-education grants management, ethical conduct of research, or similar functions
- Demonstrated experience managing the development and submission of extramural and intramural grants, a strong understanding of state and federal regulations and grant networks, and experience with post-awards processing
- Senior-level management experience related to grants management and proven experience as an effective team leader
- Master’s degree; Terminal degree preferred
- Strong communication skills
- Deep intellectual curiosity
- Strong working knowledge of relevant state and federal research rules, including uniform guidance, code of federal regulations
- Demonstrated success working effectively with faculty and senior campus leadership, as well as a broad range of other internal and external stakeholders
- Academic experiences with culturally diverse populations
Grants and Contracts Administration
- Lead and coordinate institutional efforts to secure external funding;
- Coordinate intramural, institutional, state and federal grant-seeking efforts of faculty other staff;
- Supervise UW-Stout’s portfolio of pre-award grants and contracts and post-award grants and contracts to ensure compliance;
- Supervise navigation of funded programs through pre-award process and post-awards activities, and
- Supervise student research funding awarding and dissemination efforts.
Research Policy and Compliance Management
- Guide and/or participate in the development of research policies and procedures;
- Interpret research policy for faculty, staff, administrators, and other University stakeholders;
- Supervise staff responsible for the Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human Subjects (IRB), the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and other research ethics and compliance activities; and
- Manage campus conflict-of-interest reporting procedures, and other research compliance processes and reports.
Office Operations and Management
- Supervise the staffing, budgets, and operations of ORSP; and
- Coordinate communications and operations with other relevant units on campus.
UW-Stout has consolidated its comprehensive research administration efforts in ORSP, a unit within the UW-Stout Discovery Center. The Discovery Center reports to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs and is charged with advancing UW-Stout's polytechnic focus on applied research by expanding the university's commitment to quality and innovation, transformative education and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Faculty use the university’s online course delivery system and must be available for online interactions and/or alternate time frames for teaching. Faculty members teach, advise students, conduct research, assess student learning and engage in service activities.
