The Applied Research Center is a small office located on the UW-Stout campus. We are currently seeking a full-time project manager to work on evaluation projects. This person will be responsible for managing client projects, including understanding client needs and goals; developing a plan to meet those needs and goals, and ensuring the project is completed on time and on budget. Part of the project management duties include developing and maintaining positive relationships with clients and networking to build the center’s client list. Minimum / Required

Highly Desired

  • At least 2 years of experience with qualitative data analysis
  • At least 1 year of experience with online survey software products
  • Two (2) years demonstrated experience in project management
  • Two (2) years demonstrated experience in program evaluation
  • Working knowledge of SPSS
  • Working knowledge of NVivo
  • Experience in proposal writing
  • Demonstrated experience in client communication including but not limited to written, oral and electronic reports


75% Plan, Design, and Direct Research & Analysis

  • Serve as the main point of contact for the client from the point of project approval to project completion
  • Develop plans for accomplishing all ARC projects, including providing analysis expertise, developing project checklists, and identifying responsible parties and due dates
  • Generate original data and extract data from internal and external databases, including UW-Stout’s and UW System’s data warehouse
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of all tasks for Applied Research Center projects
  • Direct and assist other ARC staff and student employees to administer, analyze data, and prepare reports and databases for ARC projects
    • Conduct research utilizing quantitative analysis, such as descriptive statistics, inferential statistics and the like for research and evaluation purposes (SPSS, Microsoft Excel, R)
    • Conduct research utilizing qualitative analysis, such as content and thematic analysis for research and evaluation purposes (NVivo)
    • Utilize database management software including Hyperion, SQL, PeopleSoft
    • Obtain IRB approvals, as necessary, and maintain IRB log for ARC projects
  • Work with team graphic designer to develop and ensure the quality of final client deliverables

20% Client Relationship Management

  • Identify opportunities for new business relationships that align with ARC strategic plan
  • Meet with prospective clients to discuss ARC services (in person, skype, phone)
  • Utilize research conducted by Marketing Specialist on potential clients, grant opportunities and new initiatives, partners, and/or competitors to support business development as well as strategic planning.
  • Collaborate with ARC Manager to develop and continue strategic planning goals for the ARC
  • Monitor trends in evaluation to assist with ARC awareness and strategy
  • Assist with preparation of materials (RFP responses, proposals, placemats, etc.) and approve all documents prior to submission
  • Attend community events / meetings / conferences to network and market the ARC

5% Other duties as assigned

  • Serve as a member of the ARC Team
  • Actively participate in strategic planning for ARC
  • Assist with ARC marketing
  • Assist with new client inquires


The Applied Research Center (ARC) is a non-state funded unit and is responsible for generating revenue to cover all unit costs. We provide services to clients in the areas of program and grant evaluation, data collection, data plans, analysis and reporting, needs assessments, and strategic planning.
