Financial Specialist/Grants Coordinator

Office of Research and Sponsored Programs

The University of Wisconsin-Stout's Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) is seeking a team member to help support faculty and staff in growing the research enterprise as Wisconsin’s Polytechnic University. UW-Stout's research portfolio is poised for development, as UW-Stout formalizes its 2030 strategic plan and continues to build on its’ tenets of applied learning, collaboration, and career focus. The financial specialist/grants coordinator will be part of a cohesive office team that prioritizes customer service in a dynamic post-pandemic higher-education environment. The team member will be responsible for administration of university internal and external grants, including professional development and student research funds.

A direct report to the Director of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, the position is a full-time annual appointment. The anticipated start date for this position is May, 2021.


Minimum / Required

  • Associate Degree
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent judgment including sensitivity to personal and confidential information
  • Excellent interpersonal, and customer service skills in working with a diverse community
  • Working knowledge of desktop hardware and standard business software programs (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, database) and the internet
  • Work independently and as part of a team environment on collaborative efforts
  • Experience in budget development

Highly Desired

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or related field
  • Experience in a higher education environment
  • Experience working in an office environment
  • Experience writing/working on a grant

Special Requirements

  • In and Out-of-State travel may be necessary. The hired candidate will need to meet UW-Stout travel authorization guidelines.
  • The hired candidate will be eligible for additional professional development in the area of Research Administration and Management


Position Summary Statement

This position oversees all ORSP internal and external grants, including professional development funds and student research funds. The position is the first point-of-contact for researchers and investigators and oversees the development of grant proposals and submissions including budget development. The position is responsible for all ORSP department accounting, including oversight and maintenance of funding strings and budget. The position serves as liaison with the Post-Award office on grants and awards.
