Instrument Shop Supervisor
DEPARTMENT: Engineering and Technology
APPOINTMENT PERCENTAGE (FTE): 100%
SALARY: $55,000 dependent upon experience and/or qualifications
This position will be responsible for managing the operation of the university laboratories within the Department of Engineering and Technology and requires advanced technical knowledge and skills to operate and maintain a wide variety of material processing equipment and advanced automation systems. This position will assist in developing research solutions to problems in state-of-the-art facilities, including a new maker space which includes soft good manufacturing capabilities. Material selection, purchasing/inventory, and processing; communicating and enforcing health and safety practices and procedures within the laboratories; providing instructional training on the proper use and function of all hand tools and machinery; maintaining a record of training; assisting students in learning the techniques required for the execution of their design solutions; managing new material applications; setting up equipment in support of instruction; and developing and constructing prototypes, instructional and shop aids as needed. Minimum / Required
- Work and communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff who possess a variety of knowledge and skill sets; problem solve; take initiative per job demands.
- Instruct others on the safe use, care and maintenance of all equipment.
- Demonstrate and enforce safety practices and procedures.
- Apply knowledge of material selection and processing; principles and elements of design; computer applications for design and development; purchasing and inventory management.
- Interest in advancing student learning in the areas of engineering and technology
- Demonstrate success working with diverse stakeholders.
- Associate Degree in Industrial Maintenance, Electromechanical Controls or equivalent degree and/or training.
- Maintain and install tooling and equipment within welding, metal casting, robotics, material testing, industrial soft good manufacturing and machining labs.
- Advanced electro-mechanical skillset to include electrical, mechanical, controls, and instrumentation.

The Department of Engineering and Technology is one of eight departments in the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Management (CSTEMM). The department has approximately 40 full-time faculty and staff, four of whom are full-time technicians. The department provides courses for its well-established and accredited undergraduate programs in Computer & Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering (B.S. and M.S.), Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Engineering Technology, and Packaging, plus other programs throughout the university.
