The University of Wisconsin – Stout is seeking an experienced manager for the position of Materials Management Supervisor. This position reports to the Director of Purchasing & Materials Management, in the Business & Financial Services unit of the university. The position is responsible for managing the operations of Printing Services, Mail Services, University Stores, and Shipping & Receiving and the direct supervision of approximately 5 staff. The Materials Management Supervisor will act as the backup for the Director of Purchasing & Materials Management.


Minimum / Required

  • Minimum 2 years of management experience that involved direct supervision of staff.
  • Demonstrated success in leading process improvement and change management.
  • Demonstrated progressive leadership responsibility.
  • Ability to professionally communicate with a diverse population of customers and all levels within an organization.
  • Experience interpreting and applying policies, laws, and regulations to daily operations.

Highly Desired

  • Experience in one or more of the functional areas of: printing, purchasing, shipping/receiving, mail services, centralized stores.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Experience monitoring and controlling expenses and budgets.
  • Experience working in a highly regulated environment (state, federal).
  • Experience with contract review / management / negotiation.
  • Bachelor’s degree.

Materials Management is a department within Purchasing and Materials Management. Materials Management provides logistical services that help the university function effectively and includes responsibility for: 1) Printing Services: project planning and management, production coordination, print buying services and campus managed printer program, 2) Central Shipping/Receiving: acceptance and prompt delivery or redirection of shipments, 3) Mail Services: process incoming, outgoing and interdepartmental mail, 4) University Stores: purchase and stock supplies and distribute throughout the campus.

The successful candidate can expect to make between $50,000 and $65,000 on an annual basis commensurate with qualifications and experience. The UW System provides an excellent benefits package including participation in the Wisconsin State retirement plan.
