Outreach Specialist - Temporary Appointment
This nine-month; no-intent to renew; academic year; non-instructional staff position with an anticipated start date of August 19, 2019.
The Outreach Specialist will provide professional support to Discovery Center collaborative applied research and technical assistance activities. This position reports to the Executive Director of the Discovery Center and performs administrative and outreach functions related to Discovery Center and/or UW-Stout academic program expertise and specializations. The Outreach Specialist performs project and program management activities, including recruiting and responding to faculty, staff and clients to develop and manage project activities. This position supports the needs of business and industry by coordinating technical assistance and applied research projects related to Discovery Center activities including Quality Standards and Methods/Practices, Business Planning, Strategic Planning, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, and other areas of expertise related to UW-Stout programs.
Specific tasks, activities and responsibilities will include:
(70%) 1. Serves as lead Discovery Center program specialist in projects to engage clients and direct the performance of an operational needs assessment. 2. Leads technical assistance and applied research projects with companies and organizations by directing optimal and specific UW-Stout and Discovery Center expertise and resources within the broad categories of customer-focused innovation, systemic continuous improvement, management systems, advanced talent management, global engagement, extended enterprise management, and sustainable products and process development. 3. Leads, directs and facilitates applied research projects with industry. 4. Provides meaningful referrals to other non-UW-Stout service providers and brokers services between them and the client as needed, on the client’s behalf. 5. Manages the end of project survey process at the end of interacts with client organization. 6. Performs and facilitates database reporting functions as it applies to the specific client activity per Discovery Center process and procedures. Grant writing and funding application:
(10%) 1. Routinely search and review relevant funding opportunities. 2. Develop concepts for funding applications. 3. Draft and submit Discovery Center grants in collaboration with Discovery Center leadership. 4. Organize and prepare project reports for awarded grants.
(20%) Other tasks, activities and responsibilities will include: 1. Provide explanation and guidance to Discovery Center services and resources. 2. Identify client base needs and develop services/support and resources to satisfy needs, including referrals to DC Professional Education for seminars, workshops, and related activities. 3. Work with faculty to develop new methods of service delivery and enhanced collaborative client/program offerings which support UW-Stout priorities. 4. Enhance professional development through attendance of training events and conferences. 5. Work with all levels of staff and client management.
Educational & Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Ability to effectively communicate (engaged listening skills, strong verbal and written communication skills) in one-on-one settings with staff, faculty, clients, and in group situations.
- Knowledge of computer hardware and applications software; MS Office products, CRM, database and e-mail.
- Possess valid driver’s license (Wisconsin) and be willing to use personal vehicle in case of the non-availability of state vehicle. Travel and overnight stays when necessary.
- Minimum two years’ experience in an academic outreach or industry environment.
- Analytical and case/project management skills.
- Innovation and entrepreneurial skills.
- Self-motivation and ability to work both as a team member and alone without direct supervision.
