ABOUT THE JOB: Painter

This position is responsible for the performance of Painting tasks listed below at a journeyman level for new, maintenance, repair and remodel projects for the University in a safe, efficient, and timely manner. Applicant must be able to sand, prepare, prime, finish, paint, stain, coat all types of materials, building components and surfacing. Employee to use and maintain all materials, tools and equipment of the trade in a safe and knowledgeable manner. Employee shift is 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum/Required

  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Internet browsers

  • Attention to quality, detail and craftsmanship

  • Work independently and as part of a team environment on collaborative efforts

  • 5 years of commercial painting experience

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Good work habits, such as attendance, punctuality, accountability, thoroughness and resourcefulness

Highly Desired

  • Experience in drywall patching and texturing

  • Experience in plaster patching and texturing

  • 10 years of commercial painting experience

  • Experience working in educational facilities

  • Ability to plan ahead for materials and resources for upcoming work to meet project schedules

  • Have the ability to be a self starter, self motivated and prioritize work to meet campus needs

Special Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s license

  • Ability to obtain O&M Asbestos training/certification

Physical Demands

Must be able to stand for long periods of time, climb ladders, stoop, crouch, climb stairways, crawl, turn, kneel and balance

  • Lifting up to 50lb. objects may be required along with occasional pushing or pulling carts

  • Breathing masks are required to be worn during some construction duties

Working Conditions and Environment

  • Employee must be able to work in partially lit spaces, confined spaces, dusty and/or dirty spaces, on raised platforms/ladders and in extreme temperatures on occasion
  • Employee must wear safety toe shoes during entire shift and is responsible to wear additional PPE as determined necessary by employee/supervisor during the course of job duties

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

Facilities Management is comprised of Building Maintenance and Grounds, Custodial Services, Heating Plant, Administration, and Facilities Planning and Engineering. The campus is comprised of 2.4 million square feet on approximately 135 acres including 55 buildings of which 22 are academic/research, 12 support services and 21 for university housing. The campus has its own utilities of steam, chilled water, data and electricity.

Minimum: $33.70 hourly, per the UW System Trade Agreement.


This has been identified as a Crafts Worker position. Crafts Workers may elect an increased vacation allocation with a corresponding reduction to the prevailing rate. Please see the options below.

100 hours = $34.80
140 hours = $34.26
180 hours = $33.70
