JOB DETAILS:
UW-Stout Involvement Center welcomes applications for two (2) full-time Student Engagement Coordinator (SEC) positions. We are seeking dynamic team members committed to student success, development, and growth through extracurricular activity, involvement, and leadership.
Position 1 | SEC – Activities & Events
Position 2 | SEC – Social Events & Community Engagement
UW-Stout’s Involvement Center team is a vibrant group who are passionate about enriching the student experience, offering services, support, and programming. As a unit of the Student Centers department, they support the overall mission to opportunities that support the personal development and learning of all UW-Stout students. The Student Centers is part of the greater UW-Stout community, which is a small and friendly campus with a unique polytechnic mission. QUALIFICATIONS
Required for both positions
- A Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent education and work experience
- One year of professional experience (or two years of graduate student experience) in programming, performing arts/lecture event planning, student organization support, student/human development or closely related professional activities
- Demonstrated event planning experience, and knowledge of student/human development and/or student leadership, developmental leadership, or organizational leadership
Preferred for both positions
- Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Counseling, Education, or a related field of study
- Prior experience working with student leaders, student development, or organizational development
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate, innovate, and work with a variety of stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience in establishing a climate (work environment) that embraces equity, diversity, and inclusion in a campus community
- Demonstrated intercultural competence and the impact on the student experience
Position 1 | SEC – Activities & Events
Candidates who have previous experience in contracting, marketing, or developing major events are strongly encouraged to apply.
General Responsibilities: This person advises the student programming board, supervises the design and social media teams, and serves as an event consultant to student organizations, departments, and division functions (i.e. BluRah). Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Specific duties listed below:
Advise and support Blue Devil Productions (BDP), the campus programming board
- Advise Blue Devil Productions (BDP) student programming operations – will demonstrate a commitment to hiring diverse candidates and support their development with quality programming.
- Support the students in their development of quality programs and events keeping in mind the diverse needs of the student body and underrepresented students
Supervise the Student Life Design Team
- Oversee all recruiting, hiring, training and supervision of student graphic designers, multimedia, animation, and digital production team – will demonstrate a commitment to hiring diverse candidates
Marketing, Promotion, & Social Media Supervision (Rotating assignment)
This portion of the position serves as an annual departmental rotating responsibility between these options: Fraternity & Sorority Life advising, Stoutonia student newspaper advising, Judicial Board advising and event registration, and social media & outreach management.
Involvement, Leadership, and Student Centers Contributions
- Support the assessment of department programs, student development learning outcomes, and leadership development – specifically BDP, social media, and contracting – and partner with the provost’s office on shared assessment aligned with Stout’s general education learning outcomes
- Maintain a working knowledge and serve as part of the team to promote, educate, and maximize our student engagement platform
- Coordinate the development and implementation of the personal development leadership series and the associated tracking and rewards (currently named Adulting 101) and in partnership with academic programs and EDI unit offerings
- Support UW-Stout’s mission of inclusive excellence in programming choices and in professional development
- Support the training, development, and recognition of student employees of the Student Centers
- Participate in professional contributions such as institutional committee work, applied research, regional and national association membership, and involvement
- Other duties as assigned
Position 2 | SEC – Social Events & Community Engagement
Candidates who have the ability to successfully manage student employees and promote their ongoing development and experience in student and/or community engagement or service activities are strongly encouraged to apply.
General Responsibilities: The person in this position is a member of the Involvement Center team, a sub-unit of the Student Centers. This person supervises a graduate student who advises the social events team and the Stoutreach events lead. Provides direct supervision of the Involvement desk staff and maintains the professional customer services of our front facing team. Occasional evening and weekend work is required. Specific duties listed below:
Supervise and support program series’ that focus on social events and community engagement
- Hire, train, and supervise program leads social events and Stoutreach programming – will demonstrate a commitment to hiring diverse candidates
- Support the student leaders who provide quality programs and events in entertainment, volunteerism, and community engagement and social program series’
- Collaborate with community and campus stakeholders surrounding voter education, community involvement, and civic engagement
- Update and maintain campus community engagement, social responsibility, and voter education websites
- Coordinate all campus Stoutreach community engagement programming and events including,
- Support students seeking opportunities in social responsibility and community engagements
- Coordinate and assist the Stout Student Association in executing major voter registration events
- Advise the Legislative Affairs Director of the Stout Student Association
Supervise Involvement Desk operations.
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise 8-12 involvement specialists
- Oversee the daily operations of the Involvement Desk and Involvement Specialists. Manage the projects and assignments of the student employee team
- Manage department services to student organizations
- Responsible for upholding the university and department mission, instilling the department mission, vision, and values with a commitment to student success in the staff team through ongoing training and leadership development
- Facilitate updates and market the student organizational services provided by the department and desk
- Manage the campus daily email communications
Advise the Judicial Board & Event approval process (Rotating assignment)
This portion of the position serves as an annual departmental rotating responsibility between these options: Fraternity & Sorority Life advising, Stoutonia student newspaper advising, Judicial Board advising and event registration, and social media & outreach management.
- Advise SSA appointed Chief Justice in case review, process development, and procedure
- Advise the Chief Justice in the selection and training of justices
- Provide guidance in the coordination of procedures and communications, following the code of conduct, and being present in all process events unless there is cause for recusal
- Collaborate with the Dean of Students to support member service on the nonacademic misconduct board
- Review, revise, and conduct the event review process for student organizations
- Collaborate with campus departments to update the process for travel, prizes, food, and other workflow related processes
Involvement, Leadership, and Student Center Contributions
- Serve on the UW-System Community Engagement Professionals Networking group
- Support the assessment of department programs, student development learning outcomes, and leadership development – specifically home-grown programming, volunteer opportunities, and civic and community engagement efforts, and partner with the provost’s office on shared assessment aligned with Stout’s general education learning outcomes
- Coordinate the development and implementation of the Social Responsibility and Community Engagement leadership development activities and the associated tracking and rewards
- Maintain a working knowledge and serve as part of the team to promote, educate, and maximize our student engagement platform
- Support the training, development, and recognition of student employees of the Student Centers
- Support UW-Stout’s mission of inclusive excellence in programming choices and in professional development
- Provide workshops, in the support of student and student employee leadership development and in partnership with academic programs and EDI offerings
- Participate in professional contributions such as institutional committee work, applied research, regional and national association membership, and involvement
- Other duties as assigned
