The University of Wisconsin-Stout, Wisconsin’s Polytechnic University, welcomes applications for a Teaching, Learning & Technology Specialist!

This position reports to the Director of LTS (Learning Technology Services) and plays a key role in supporting the UW-Stout digital learning environment. The position will assist in administrative duties and resolving issues related to the course management system, web conferencing tools and other instructional technology. This position will collaborate with internal and external units to identify and deploy appropriate technology for online, blended and traditional courses based upon pedagogical goals. The position will also provide guidance in course design and conduct training on effective pedagogies and instructional technology. This position will collaborate with units across campus to enhance the instructional mission of the University and promote the development of an equitable and inclusive environment.

Minimum / Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, or related field.
  • Experience using and supporting learning management systems and other instructional technology.
  • Experience with developing and delivering instruction in teaching/training environments.
  • Experience with common desktop applications and learning technologies, such as presentation, multimedia, and web technologies.
  • Knowledge of pedagogical strategies and high impact practices relative to multiple learning environments, such as traditional, online, blended, or hybrid.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interpret and explain information verbally and in writing.
  • Strong organizational and presentation skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.

Highly Desired

  • Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field.
  • Experience supporting Canvas as a learning management system.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and identify software application problems and implement solutions.
  • Experience working in a multi-platform Macintosh and Windows environment.
  • Experience utilizing multimedia to support effective learning, such as screen capture and digital recording software.
  • Familiarity with course design principles, processes, and rubrics such as Quality Matters.
  • Experience working in an educational environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative to learn new skills and emerging technologies related to teaching and learning.
  • Experience working with video conferencing platforms such as Teams or Zoom.
  • Works effectively in a dynamic, deadline-driven, team-based environment with multiple competing priorities.


  • Consults and supports instructors in the planning, design and development of engaging, effective learning experiences which may be face-to-face, blended, and/or online.
  • Designs, develops, organizes, maintains, and consults with faculty on instructional materials, activities, curricula, and assessment resources in accordance with current pedagogical practices, cognitive/learning science, and design tools and methods.
  • Provide administrative technical support of the learning management system including integration of third-party application software.
  • One-on-one and group instructional design support for instructors including consultation and support services in instructional design, strategies, assessment, and technology.
  • Designs, develops, or recommends multimedia learning materials. Facilitates communications with multimedia service providers to ensure instructional needs are met.
  • Designs, develops, and delivers instructor development and engagement programs and activities focused on teaching and learning using technology.
  • Provides training and technical support directly to learners in settings such as classrooms, labs, clinics, and distance learning mediums.
  • Provides consultation, training, and/or technical support for learning technology tools and platforms, including but not limited to Kaltura, My Media, Respondus Lockdown Browser, Teams and Zoom)
  • Collaborates with other units across campus such as the Teaching and Learning Center, Disability Services, etc. to provide support and/or professional development focused on teaching and learning using technology.
  • Analyzes, tests, troubleshoots, resolves issues, and provides feedback regarding learning technologies.
  • Researches, designs, and/or acquires learning resources, technologies, materials, and/or processes to support learning.
  • Create and update instructional support documentation and materials including tutorials and other web-based artifacts.
  • Serve as the primary consultant for the College of Arts and Human Sciences
    • Consult with faculty and staff on the implementation of new technology
    • Provide expertise on the use of campus technology to improve processes, efficiency, and service delivery
    • Participate in the purchasing process by meeting with faculty and staff, consulting on the purchase of appropriate hardware and software and completing forms as needed
    • Support campus inventory initiatives as they relate to computing equipment
    • Ensure compliance with and educate users on software copyright and licensing agreements
  • Participate in instructional design and educational technology committees and activities at a campus, regional, system, or national level.
  • Duties as assigned by supervisor.


Learning Technology Services (LTS) is a unit with the Learning and Information Technology (LIT) department and serves as an instructional center focusing on teaching and learning for instructors of the University of Wisconsin-Stout community. Offering a range of services, LTS partners with faculty to provide expertise, training, and support to assist instructors with incorporating instructional technology into their teaching practice and creating technology-enhanced instructional materials.
